Do you have difficulty finding time to relax? Does your schedule always seem to get in the way of what you want to do for the health of yourself or your family?
If you answered yes to these questions you are in good company, my friend. Every one I speak to, myself included, has found themselves burnt out with nothing to put out.
Life is crazy and it gets crazier; so the question is this: “How do I make time to reenergize and refocus in the middle of a crazy schedule?” I hope to give you six things that can immediately be put into practice.
I pray that it will help you find the motivation and inspiration you need.
These 6 points are important to me to live by and I teach others to do the same. These points have changed my life.
They also unvieled a different outlook on how much time I spend with my family. I am not talking about just being with family, but actually being present in the moment with them.
Let’s start with words from Jesus.
In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
1. Go To Jesus
I know this sounds cliche and super churchy, but can you read it again? Maybe aloud this time. How many times do we say that we go to Jesus with our weariness but really don’t?
How can we spend time with our Savior and not be changed? Jesus literally commands that we go to Him weary and heavy-laden (place
He is saying, “My child, I love you and want you to rest in My presence!”
You may be asking, “Well this sounds great Chet, but how?” First, it is important to realize that Jesus is God. In verse 27 of that same chapter Jesus says that no one knows God unless they know Him.
He wanted them to be reassured that life will get tough and remind them to lean on Him.
2. Take The Yoke of Jesus
I know, for sure, we can all agree that we put more pressure on our personal yokes than we need to. Keep in mind yokes were very common in Jesus’ day, as this was the most popular way to prepare crop and pull supplies from one place to another.
We see in this passage that if we accept the cross, it releases the yoke of sin and slavery in our own life. We can immediately experience the humble and gentle spirit of Jesus in this decision!
3. Make time for yourself and your family so you can repose
This is vital in my own life. We make sure Saturdays are the day that we repose together as a family. I am in ministry, so Sundays are usually pretty crazy for us; that’s why we pick Saturdays.
If someone invites us to do something on a Saturday we try our best to say no. This is the day when we do things like go to the park or eat lunch somewhere just as a family. I don’t do work on this day unless it is absolutely necessary.
We have found that we are bonding more and resting together as well. We do have three little ones, so taking naps are pretty much a historical narrative; however, there are other ways to rest. What’s your way? I would love to hear it in the post of this blog on my Facebook page!
4. Meditate on God’s Word
Look, I know it can be difficult starting something new. I have been there with working out just like I have been with reading God’s Word.
This is the deal: If we don’t stay in the Word of God we will not understand what will give us our best life. God so wants us to live at peace and surround ourselves in His presence.
Are you letting Him?
5. Don’t be discouraged when you plan too much
Remember this: You can still find that repose we discussed in the middle of a crazy week. Sit down by yourself or with your spouse and figure out a 2-4 hour block when just you or your family can spend time in the moment together.
Most of us watch 1-2 hours of T.V. or more a day, so use that time if you need. Don’t forget how important your rest time is!
6. Find something you are passionate about
This is real good, if we are doing what is a passion of ours then we will enjoy it. Maybe you like to run, workout, take pictures, color, visit friends, serve in the church, or sit and read.
Make sure to find time for this EVERY week! This will naturally energize you and put some pep in your step.
By the way, don’t forget there is usually a reason why you have a passion about something. The Holy Spirit has a way of working through us by giving us passions during certain seasons of life. Wow, God is good!
If you don’t know where you are going when you die; you can right now!
1. Agree with God that you mess up and there is sin in your life
2. Believe that Jesus took your place on a torture device
3. Turn away from the sin/mistakes in your life
4. Receive Christ into your heart
If you just received Christ, CELEBRATE!!! You are now a child of God. I would love to hear from you, drop a comment on this post, write to me at [email protected], or visit me on social media.
