Do you wonder if you should quit your job and move on? Have you ever thought about stopping other activities that get in the way of your relationship with God?
I still do.
I am not saying that I am unhappy in any area of my life. I think it would be small thinking if any of us are comfortable where we are. There should be a bigger vision in each of our lives.
If we don’t press on to better ways and better things, what exactly is the point of life?
Don’t we all grow physically and mentally? God put a natural desire in each of us to see things grow.
We love to watch our children grow.
We love to watch our business grow.
We love to watch our churches grow.
So, why would we not want ourselves to grow and be substantial vision setters in our own context?
I believe there are certain ways we can know if we are just settling and missing out on vision in our lives.
Here are 5:
(1) You are perfectly content with your life
I know what you’re thinking. Is this not what you work for? Don’t we all aspire to be happy and content where we are?
If we only live 70-80 years on average here on earth, why would we want to coast?
There should be a groaning inside of us that wants more. There is nothing wrong with this at all. We should want to be more successful, we should want to give more to God and honor Him with what we have.
The problem happens when we settle, some of us are afraid to push because we think someone will not like us.
News for you friend:
Someone will always not like you.
(2) All decisions you make in life are based on experience and not faith
I am not saying making decisions based on experience is bad.
There has to be faith involved in every decision. Maybe you are in a place right now and miserable at your job. What are you doing with that misery?
Do you think maybe you are miserable for a reason? Is it time to move on? Does God have something else for you to do?
We will never know what is ahead unless we take that first step forward.
Dr. David Platt once said, “God directs details of our life for the accomplishment of His will and spread of His worship in the world.”
Every decision we make God already knows what is happening and is in control. This does not mean we don’t use logic; however, faith and logic have to be practiced together.
(3) You are n
ot willing to be obedient in suffering
Suffering doesn’t always mean we need to change something in our lives. It could mean that we are going through a refining season of life.
God uses all things for His Glory and for our good. Just because you may be suffering right now does not mean it is a bad thing.
However, if you are struggling with
How do we know if it is a personal sin or not?
Is what you are deciding to do affecting your relationship with God and others?
(4) You are living a certain way because it’s what you have always done
This attitude shows up everywhere from churches to the family unit.
This kills vision in your life because with this attitude you are not willing to change and adapt. Changing and adapting is key to setting a vision and succeeding in reaching that vision.
Life changes so rapidly; therefore, we should be on guard at all times to accept change and move forward. Not accepting change means you are constantly moving backward.
It is okay to move on if that’s what God is saying to you.
But please remember this:
Make sure God is telling you to move on and adapt change before doing it. Moving ahead of God’s plan is not very wise. If God wants a different direction in your life He will let you know, but you need to be willing to move when He says go.
Sometimes this urge towards change starts with a loss of passion in your current position.
(5) You are crippled with fear
This is the most crucial. If we are overcome with fear of the “what ifs” it is definite that growth will not happen.
Think about a flower.
You water a flower out of faith that the sunlight and water will make that flower grow. If you are crippled with fear you will never move forward into certain actions that will enable you to grow like a flower.
Fear is a liar.
Fear is the opposite of truth.
Fear is no where to be found in God’s presence.
Take hold of these truths and press forward into the uncomfortableness of life!
Watch your vision expand.
Watch your influence for the Gospel message magnify.
And of course, watch your relationship with God be fresh each and every day.
